A closer view of the Amar Jawan Jyoti. This structure was
placed here in 1971 after the India-Pakistan War of 1971 by the then
Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to the soldiers who had died in the
war.
This black marble structure has four fires perpetually lit at its
four corners. The rifle atop the structure is capped by the army hat
used during World War II.
The annual Republic Day parade which takes place on the Central
Vista commences with the Prime Minister laying a wreath at the
Amar Jawan Jyoti.
