As
you might expect, most of the activities and tours of North Andros
are based around bone fishing, and often organized by the island's
lodges and resorts . The Andros Lighthouse Yacht Club and Marina in
Fresh Creek (phone 242/368-2305 or 1-800/688-4752, fax 242/368-2300)
is built around a central patio, with a hotel overlooking an
eighteen-slip marina, and offers bone fishing and island tours.
Also
in Fresh Creek, Coakley House (phone 242/368-2013) is a large
self-catering villa operated by the Small Hope Bay Lodge (below),
while Point of View Villas (phone 242/368-2750 or 1-800/688-4752, fax
242/368-2761) offers exclusive, expensive accommodations.
Further
north, on an island off Staniard Creek, Kamalame Cay (phone
242/368-6281 or 1-800/688-4752, fax 242/368-6279) is a private
resort with many upscale facilities. At Cargill Creek, the best
lodges are Andros Island Bone fishing Club (phone 242/368-5167 or
1-800/688-4752), Cargill Creek Fishing Lodge (phone 242/368-5129 or
1-800/533-4353), and the rustic favorite Charlie's Haven (phone
242/368-4087).

Unquestionably, though, the island's premier diving and snorkeling
lodge is Small Hope Bay Lodge in Calabash Bay (phone 242/368-2013 or
1-800/223-6961, a limestone and pine
resort with a converted old boat for a bar and batik décor in the
rooms. Diving and snorkeling trips are available, along with a
beachside hot tub, kayaks, bone fishing, saltwater fly-fishing and
reef fishing. Dining is excellent here, as it is at most of the
lodges. Other good choices for meals include The Conch Sound Resort
and Green Windows Inn in Nicholl's Town, and in Fresh Creek, Hank's
Place , known for its great fried chicken.
