Angra dos Reis
became a boomtown during and after the construction of the local
nuclear power plant.
 Angra
has several beautiful beaches and hundreds of islands, each one is
an actual paradise itself. One of the most beautiful of them all is
Brava Beach.
Angra
is the focal launching point for tourists eager to begin their
sightseeing journey of the paradise islands off the coast of Brazil.
An excellent starting point for traveling to
Ilha Grande
is
Angra dos Reis.
The price of the ferry from
Angra
to
Vila do Abraao
on
Ilha Grande
is R$2.60 during the week.
Ilha Grande
is a large, beautiful island covered in forest and protected as an
eco preserve.

Praia Lopes Mendes
is a fantastic white sand beach with crystal clear Atlantic water.
There is no village nearby, so the water is not polluted. It's a
R$10 (about US$4) boat ride from the main town of
Vila do Abraao.
During the week there are very few people on
Ilha Grande.
There is a trail system throughout the island that facilitates
hiking or just walking to your next location. If you don't like
hiking, take along a boat to the beach. There are only two cars on
the island, and both belong to the police.
