Terra
phone 246/432-1099. This Italian/Caribbean restaurant at Baku Beach
has an expensive and ever-changing menu including starters like
grilled baby calamari from around B$20, and main courses of
pan-fried dolphin fillets from B$45. Save room for the chocolate
mousse. Mon-Sat 11.30am-10pm.
Lone Star
at the Lone Star hotel phone 246/419-0598. Spectacular
seaside location, and the trendiest place on the west coast. Expect
to find fish soup, sushi or crab cakes as starters (B$20-40). Main
courses range from moules marinieres to pork tenderloin with
polenta (B$50-70). There's also a first-class chilled seafood
selection - a platter for two costs B$220. Daily 11.30am-5.30pm &
6.30-10.30pm.
The Mews
phone 246/432-1122. Top-notch food is served at this Holetown
townhouse - ask for a table on one of the terraces. The seafood is
imaginative - try the baked snapper in a parmesan crust - and the
place is often packed with local bigwigs. B$15-25 for starters,
B$45-65 for mains. Daily 5.30-11pm. |
Olive's Bar and Bistro
phone 246/432-2112. Popular Holetown eatery, simple in design with
its wooden floor and white tablecloths, but offering a wide choice
of excellent meals. Starters include beef carpaccio or warm shrimp
salad for B$19-22, with main courses like jerk pork with roasted
garlic mash (B$40) or seared sea scallops (B$56). The relaxed
upstairs bar is one of the best places for a drink. Daily 6-10pm.
Chattel House
at Sandridge Hotel .
Slightly sanitized but hugely engaging
version of a typical Bajan rum-shop with enthusiastic service and
good, inexpensive cutters, burgers and pies. Don't miss the
delicious weekend special of pudding and souse - an absolute steal
at B$8. Daily 11am-9pm.
Fisherman's Pub
Queen Street phone 246/422-2703. Delightful place, with a large
verandah jutting out over the ocean, and the best-value food in
town. You can munch on a sizeable roti or flying fish cutters at
lunch for around B$5; at night, typical Bajan dinners cost around
B$20. Daily 11am-10pm.
