Altun Ha is fairly difficult to reach independently (though it can
be done in a day from Belize City) as the 3km track to the site is
located along the Old Northern Highway - turn off the
Northern Highway at mile 18.
There are buses (Mon-Sat) from Belize City to the village of
Maskall, passing the turn-off to the site at the village of
Lucky Strike (community phone 021/2017), 3km from Altun Ha,
but you'll probably have to walk in from here. Any travel agent in
Belize City will arrange a tour and increasing numbers visit
as part of a day-trip from San Pedro.
There's no accommodation at the site, but you can ask the caretaker
for permission to camp. |
