The airstrip is about 1km south of the centre, within easy reach of the hotels south of the main dock; alternatively, you can take a golf-cart taxi. If you arrive at either the main "front" dock or the "back" docks, simply follow your nose to the water-taxi office , effectively the centre of the village. They can give information and will hold your luggage while you look for a place to stay, as will the tour offices we've listed. Leaving for Belize City, boats depart roughly every two ours from 6.30am to 3pm (5pm on weekends).

There are no street names in Caye Caulker village, but the street running along the shore at the front of the island is effectively " Front Street ", with just one or two streets running behind it in the centre of the island. The post office is on the back street, south of the centre, and the BTL office on the corner leading to the main dock.

There's Internet access at CyberCafé, just north of the Sandbox Restaurant. The Atlantic Bank, just south of the centre, gives Visa cash advances (US$5 fee),

and an increasing number of businesses accept plastic. Tina Auxillou, who runs Caye Caulker's travel agency, Caye Caulker Travel and Tour (phone 226-0011; is a fount of local information and can also book domestic and international flights. As yet there is little air conditioning on the island, which is fine most of the time, when a cooling breeze blows in from the sea, but sandflies and mosquitoes can cause almost unbearable irritation on calm days. Note that tap water on the Caye should be regarded as unfit to drink; rainwater and bottled water are widely available.
