Crossing from Mexico
It's less than a four-hour bus journey from Belize City, along the
Northern Highway via Orange Walk and Corozal, to the Mexican town of
Chetumal. If you're entering Belize from the north, Mexican
immigration and customs posts are on the northern bank of the
river Hondo at the Santa Elena border crossing, 12km from
Chetumal; when you're finished there, the bus will pick you up again
to take you across to Belizean immigration. Border formalities take
just a matter of minutes. If you're leaving Belize you'll
have to pay an exit tax of US$10 and the PACT conservation fee of
US$3.75. Moneychangers on the Belize side won't rip you off.
