Set in a former milpa clearing in the forest, La Milpa
Field Station offers comfortable dorm and cabaņa
accommodation in a tranquil, studious atmosphere (dorms US$77,
cabaņas US$93 per person, including three meals and two excursions
or lectures a day).
Guests are mainly students on tropical ecology courses, though
everyone is welcome, and the facilities all use the latest green
technology, while deer and ocellated turkeys feed contentedly around
the cabins. Adjacent to the station is the huge Classic Maya city of
La Milpa, the third largest in Belize, where several royal
tombs have recently been uncovered.
