Cane Garden Bay,
a mile-long stretch of sand backed by lush green hills, is
the most popular and most accessible of Tortola's beaches -
a drawback when the cruise ships are in town as the crowds
can get unbearable. It's also Tortola's party beach
attracting a mix of locals, tourists and yachters.
You can
hire all kinds of water sports gear here, and there
are plenty of restaurants, bars and hotels. The bay is a
popular anchorage for yachters who come in for a day of sun
or a night of fun. The surf may not be nearly as good as at
Josiah's Bay Beach, but Apple Bay, south along the
coast from Cane Garden Bay, still pulls the surfers in
(especially during January and February when the waves are
at their best), as much for the fun atmosphere as the
surfing scene.

There are restaurants, bars and several
hotels on the beach and alongside the road skirting the
western side of the island. North along the coast from Cane
Garden Bay, palm-fringed Brewer's Bay Beach is the
most secluded beach on the western side of the island; you
won't find any crowds even during the height of the season.
The abundant coral also makes it the best beach in the area
for snorkeling.
The island's only campsite is
located here, along with several beach bars and grills.
