Tortola has the full range of water sports and boating
activities - snorkeling, diving, windsurfing, power
boating, fishing and sailing (from scenic day
charters to full-moon booze cruises). The only place to play
tennis is at resorts and hotels with courts. These
include Frenchman's Cay Resort, Long Bay Beach
Resort, Moorings-Mariner Inn, and the Prospect
Reef Resort. All charge about US$7 an hour for
non-guests, except Moorings, which is free of charge
on a first-come first-served basis.
Horse riding is a
great way to explore the mountains. Shadow's Stables, on
Ridge Road (US$25 per hour; phone 284/494-2262), offers rides
through Sage Mountain National Park.

The owner, Elton
"Shadow" Parsons, is descended from a long line of local
farmers who tilled the land where the stables now stand; his
knowledge of local history and funny stories makes him the
perfect guide. If you prefer to use your own legs, there are
three excellent hiking trails in Mount Sage National
Park.
