Restaurants are, predictably, expensive. The greatest
concentration is in Armação along Rua das Pedras, with Le
Streghe at no. 201 serving fine Italian food, and La Poste
Restante, at no. 222, and Au Cheval Blanc, at no. 181, both
specializing in excellent French dishes.
Cheaper options include the barracas on the beaches selling
grilled fish or the numerous pizza places. Finally, there's
always the Belgian-run Chez Michou Crêperie on Rua das
Pedras, a popular evening hangout thanks to its open-air
bar, cheap drinks and excellent crepes.
During the day, snacks are served at the kiosks and bars at
all beaches. Most of them serve grilled anchovies and
snappers, shrimp and squid servings, all freshly caught that
day. There are several options at the left corner of
Ferradura Beach: try out the crispy shrimp pastry served at
Samucas Bar. At Geribá, you must taste the fancy sandwiches
served at the popular Fishbone Café.
• Food and Drink choices are plentiful.
• You can stay on the beach all day with beach side
restaurants and vendors with snacks and drinks.
• Most of the lodgings are in pousadas, small hotels with
fewer rooms and more personalized service. Some are quite
luxurious, others less so. Browse the list of hotels for
availability, rates, amenities, location, activities and
other specific information.
You should also try the food at the small Bar dos Pescadores
(Fishermen's Bar), in Manguinhos. The environment couldn't
be more inspiring: a breeze, the ocean and fishing boats.
The fish and seafood come from the fish market, right across
the street, literally coming from the ocean straight to your
table.
The city also offers several less expensive options too.
Boom and Buzin are amongst the most popular restaurants.
They serve excellent food, in a great environment, using the
"per kilo" system. There are also restaurants that serve the
so-called local Buzios Dish. It is honest, good and cheap
food. In Geribá try out Barbado and Gaivota. Downtown, don't
miss out on the famous Restaurante do David and the cozy
Italian Parvati, decorated with folkloric Búzios characters.

For the more adventurous types, seeking exotic tastes, the
answer is Sawasdee, the Thai restaurant. This place can
surely be included amongst the best in the country for this
type of food and there are always interesting people there.
Chef Marcos Sodré runs the place and creates the menu. Some
of the highlights are grilled salmon medallion with sliced
mango in sweet and sour sauce, mint and pink peppers. As an
appetizer, there are spring rolls filled with crab meat or
mango salad with fresh shrimp. You can't miss out.
The architecture and decoration at Pátio Havana, signed by
Hélio Pelegrino and Sig Bergamin, are quite impressive,
offering 5 different environments: whisky bar, wine cellar,
cigar parlor, veranda and the bistro. There is always
quality music and at the back, several tables face the
ocean. Estância Don Juan, which belongs to the same owners,
serves meat brought from Cabana Las Lilas (Argentina) and
wine selected from the Trapiche Cellar.
Another good option is the Pizzaria Caprichosa. Their
pizzas, famous in Rio, follow the Italian DOC style and are
made using fresh and selected ingredients and baked in a
wood-burning oven. Talking about pizza, another more
economical option is the Massaroca Pizza Drink. The
bar-restaurant, shaped like a boat, has tables outdoors with
a view to the Bardot Beachfront and serves several pizza
varieties. And make sure you reserve one meal for the Chez
Michou.
Their crepes, with a huge variety of fillings, have made it
a success for over twenty years. On the menu is the very
Brazilian jerked beef and catupiry cream cheese crepe or the
classic Alessandro (cheese, ham, tomato and oregano). For
dessert, try out the banana with chocolate crunchy bits and
vanilla ice cream crepe: unbeatable. And since we're talking
about desserts, don't miss out on Café Maré Mansa's pies,
like the famous banana with chocolate pie and also the
cheesecake or guava paste with cheese ice cream from the Mil
Frutas ice cream store. After all that, you have to go for
walks during the day to burn the calories from the day
before.
