Although many of the appealing restaurants in the Exumas can be
found in George Town, there are other good choices scattered around
the islands as well. South of George Town, La Shanté Beach Club, on
the beach in Forbes Hill, makes a good spot for lunch, while in
Williams Town, Mom's Bakery, The Arawak Club and Santana's Grill all
sere tasty snacks and simple seafood meals. North of George Town,
Big D's Conch Spot, on the beach at Steventon, is a local favorite,
and Kermit's Hilltop Tavern in Rolle Town and The Fisherman's Inn in
Barreterre are also worth a try.
The
Bistro at February Point phone 242/336-2661. A mile south of George Town,
on a terrace at the edge of a white sandy beach, an alfresco restaurant
with delicious seafood and meat dishes for lunch and dinner, as well as
Wednesday night pizza. Free transfers to and from George Town for
supper. Moderate to expensive.
The
Chat and Chill Open-air beach bar at volleyball Beach on Stocking
Island. A cheap and breezy place for burgers, seafood, cool drinks and a
swim. Daily 11am-7pm.
Cheater's Restaurant and Bar phone 242/336-2535. No-frills roadhouse two
miles south of Georgetown on the Queen's Highway, serving tasty
home-style Bahamian food. Lunch and supper Mon-Fri 10am-11pm, and Sat
8am-11pm for breakfast as well. Tuesday night fish fry with rake 'n'
scrape music. US$8-24.
Club Peace and Plenty Restaurant phone 242/336-2551. Located off the hotel
lobby and set in a glassed-in alcove with a nice view of Stocking
Island, featuring fish, lobster and
steak. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Expensive.

Coconut Coe Inn phone 242/336-2659. One of the best restaurants in the
Exumas, with an extensive menu, cozy atmosphere and attentive service.
Offers delicious pizza, pasta, and steak and seafood platters. The chef
will prepare your day's catch, and the beachside Sand Bar serves
sandwiches and snacks Fri 3-9pm. Breakfast daily 7.30-9.30am, dinner
Tues-Sun 6-9pm; reservations recommended before 4pm. Moderate to
expensive.
Eddie's Edgewater Club phone 242/336-2050. Popular,
inexpensive local spot
overlooking Victoria Pond and offering native dishes, pool tables and
lie music Mondays and Saturdays.
Hamburger Beach Snack Bar at Peace and Plenty beach club on Stocking
Island. An array of inexpensive hotdogs, burgers, soft drinks, beer and
ice cream. Daily 11am-3pm.
Sam's Place phone 242/336-2579. Upstairs in a grey timber building
overlooking the marina, the best place in George Town for breakfast,
specializing in Bahamian boiled breakfasts and American-style bacon and
eggs and pancakes. Also good lunchtime seafood, sandwiches and burgers,
great ocean side views, and quick and friendly service.
Two
Turtles Inn phone 242/336-2545. Outdoor patio bar overlooking the wharf, a
great place for lunchtime sandwiches, salads, burgers and conch dishes.
Friday night barbecues with lie entertainment.
