Several outfitters based in George Town offer an array of outdoor
activities . Starfish The Exuma Activity Center (phone 242/336-3033 or
1-877/398-6222 in Canada and the US, ) offers guided history and
eco-tours of Elizabeth Harbour, Crab Cay and Stocking Island by
boat, along with cycling trips on quiet island byways and paddling
excursions through the cays off George Town. Day trips include
beachside picnics and snorkeling, and full-moon, sunset and sunrise
paddling excursions are also available, as well as two- to six-day
kayaking and camping trips.
The
Exumas are one of the best places in the world to snorkel and dive.
Exuma Scuba Adventures (PO Box 29055, George Town, Exuma phone242/336-2893 or 357-2259, ) operates out of Club Peace and Plenty ,
while the Exuma Dive Center (PO Box EX-29102, George Town, Exuma phone242/336-2390, exumadive@BahamasVG.com ) offers snorkeling and diving
excursions and rents water sports equipment.
The
islands also offer superb deep-sea fishing and bonefishing waters, and a
number of good fishing guides are based in George Town and the
surrounding area: Cely's Fly Fishing (phone242/345-2341), Cooper's
Charter Service (phone242/336-2711), Fish Rowe Charters (phone242/345-0074) and Abby MacKenzie (phone242/345-2312). Fishing expeditions
and day trips to the cays of Barreterre, including Leaf Cay - home to a
colony of giant iguanas - can be arranged through Captain Martin (phone242/358-4057) or Rev. A.A. MacKenzie (phone242/355-5024).
