One of the best and most popular ways of exploring the Exumas is by
sea kayak, with several outfitters offering guided expeditions
through the cays. Starfish The Exuma Activity Center rents kayaking
equipment and offers excellent day trips, in which a leisurely
journey precedes a picnic lunch on one of the several small islands
enclosing Elizabeth Harbour.
Further north in the Exumas, Ibis Tours (PO Box 208, Pelham, NY 10803
phone 914/738-5334 or 1-800/525-9411 in the US, runs
eight-day guided expeditions through the Exuma Land and Sea Park from
March to May (US$1600, not including airfare to Nassau).
Starting at Staniel Cay and traveling toward Norman's Cay at the park's
southern end, the trip allows plenty of time for snorkeling, swimming
and sunbathing on the many beaches along the way. The kayaks are
equipped with sails to lessen the exertion required.
