This 6,243-acre park is named for Barron Collier, an early settler in the area, and the Seminole Indians. Many Indians whose ancestors fought in the Second Seminole War still lie in the area.

Self-guiding and conducted walks on the nature trail (nearly a mile long) reveal an interesting environment common to the coastal wilderness of Yucatan and the West Indies. Here too is the rare Florida royal palm
with its distinctive lime-green upper trunk. The mangrove and cypress swamps, pine flatwoods, tidal creeks, and salt marshes shelter a broad range of wildlife. An observation platform permits an elevated view of ospreys, spoonbills, bald eagles, red-cockaded woodpeckers, wood storks, and other colorful birds. With patience and luck you might even glimpse the rare Florida panther, the Florida black bear, or the manatee, which are observed a few times a year.

visitors may also explore the park on a 13 ½-mile round-trip canoe trail to the northernmost tip of the Ten Thousand Islands. The rivers and bays provide chances to fish for snooker, mangrove snapper, and redfish.
A replica of an 1840’s blockhouse serves as an interpretive center, with photo exhibits of native plants and animals and a review of Mr. Collier’s achievements as a pioneering developer in the area. In the summer, campfire slide shows outline park activities. Canoes may be brought in or rented. A reminder: insects are a problem in summer.
Open year-round. Admission charged Dec. - May.
