Hoover Dam is a testimony to our country's ability to construct monolithic projects in the midst of adverse conditions. Built during the Depression; thousands of men and their families came to Black Canyon to tame the Colorado River. It took less than 5 years, in a harsh and barren land, to build the largest dam of its time. Now, more than 60 years later, Hoover Dam still stands as a world-renowned structure.

The dam is a National Historic Landmark and has been rated by the American Society of Civil Engineers as one of America's Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders.

You can spend an adventurous day on the Colorado River, down the Black Canyon below Hoover Dam on a wonderful paddle trip.

Visit caves, hidden side canyons and float through history on this incredible trip. Your adventure begins below the wondrous Hoover Dam. There you will launch in your own kayak or canoe and be given a short instruction and safety briefing. Shortly after, you and your guide will begin your float down the Colorado River. Visit the Sauna Cave, a deep man-made cavern constructed to harness the Earth's energy during the construction of Hoover Dam. Hike several side canyons such as Gold Strike and Moonscape where you will
enjoy beautiful waterfalls and numerous hot springs.

The steep canyon walls also protect many forms of wildlife. Sightings of Red Tail Hawks, Bighorn Sheep, and Coyotes are common. Many species of cactus, multi-colored flowers and wild grasses also keep your eye with plenty to see. The geology of the canyon is volcanic in origin and is astounding to witness. Huge walls border either side of the river making for a beautiful trip, there is nothing like it. Floating this section of the Colorado River is truly a great experience and one that you, your friends and family will remember forever.
