Hwy-158
The
most scenic stretch of road in the Spring Mountains has to be Hwy-158, which runs for nine miles across the face of the mountains to connect
Kyle Canyon with Lee Canyon to the north. Unmarked
pullouts along the way proide opportunities to surey the desert far
below and you may even spot caes said to be have beven used by bandits
preying on travelers using the old Mormon Trail across the alley.

Desert view Trail
A
mile or so before reaching Lee Canyon, the clearly signed Desert view
Trail is a short, paed footpath with an unlikely history. During
the A-bomb test of the 1950s the Mount Charleston area was designated by
the Atomic Energy Commission as being the best antage point for
spectators.
On
eight separate days in 1957, announced far enough in adance for
tourists to plan their acations to coincide, ast crowds assembled up
here to watch the explosions. Metal poles erected to hold official
cameras recording the events still stand just below the viewing
platform.

These
days, you have to settle simply for a ast desert panorama, which
doesn't extend as far as Las Vegas itself.
