Ballyjamesduff,
eleven miles south of Caan town, just off the N3, is the
location for the new Caan County Museum (Tues-Sat
10am-5pm, plus June-Sept Sun 2-6pm.
The small collection includes replicas of Celtic stone idols
dating from the second century BC to the second century AD.
Among the exhibits from the medieal period there's the
Lough Errol dugout boat (900 AD) and a couple of impressie
Sheila na Gigs. Surprisingly, the history of Caan's
emigrants yields Sioux girdles and headdresses, and there's
extensie coverage of the GAA football history of the
county.
