One of the most popular excursions from Negril heads into
the low-lying Dolphin Head Mountains to the 22
mini-cascades and numerous swimming spots at Mayfield
Falls.
The falls are very hard to find independently, and most
people visit as part of an organized tour run by one of two
operators, Original Mayfield Falls (ph 876/957-4729) and
Riverwalk at Mayfield Falls (ph 876/974-8000). Both offer
tranquil guided walks through bamboo-shaded cool water with
swimming holes every twenty yards.
The tours (US$65 per person, plus tip) include transport
from Montego Bay or Negril and lunch. Wear a swimming
costume and bring flip-flops, as the stones are tough on
bare, wet feet. Mosquitoes can also be a problem.
Mayfield Falls (daily 9am-5pm; US$10)
