There's a wealth of budget accommodation in Long Bay.
Up the hill toward the east end of the bay is the simple,
reliable and relaxed Skanka Heights (phone:
876/913-7318; up to US$25), a perfect backpackers' hangout
which affords gorgeous views over the surrounding coastline.
Rooms are in the main house or private cottages; all have
fans, mosquito nets and access to the kitchen; meals - from
pizza to Jamaican staples - are also available.
Down on the beach, the owner has built a couple of
African-style huts (phone: 876/913-7712, email as above;
US$25-50) adjacent to his Cool Runnings bar; they
have verandahs overlooking the water and private bathrooms.
On the other side of the road, Likkle Paradise
(phone: 876/913-7702; US$25-50) offers spotless rooms with
fans and private bathrooms; guests can use the kitchen. Just
up the road, Monica's Hideout (phone: 876/913-7113 or
7479; US$25-50) offers compact, self-contained one-bedroom
cottages.

Evenings in Long Bay are usually centered around the
appropriately named Chill Out beach bar and
restaurant (phone: 876/913-7327), a French-run, open-sided
thatch-roofed joint where you can get good meals or
have a drink at the lively bar.
A few steps west, on a lovely bit of beach, the appealing
Cool Runnings offers tasty meals (fish in
coconut, chicken in satay sauce, calamari fritters, pizza).
There's usually good music, and occasionally parties or
sound-system jams.
