North of the Blue Mountains, Portland is rightfully
touted as the most beautiful of Jamaica's parishes - a
rain-drenched land of luscious foliage, sparkling rivers and
pounding waterfalls.
Small-scale Port Antonio is the largest settlement, a
relaxed country town with some inexpensie accommodation
options.
East of town lie a string of fabulous beaches and
swimming spots, including the loely Blue Lagoon.
If you
head into the interior, you can be poled down the Rio
Grande on a bamboo raft or hike through the rainforest
along the centuries-old trails of the Windward Maroons.

An increasing number of isitors are enturing east of Port
Antonio for the even more laid-back pleasures of Long Bay
- with a growing young travelers' scene and the best surf in
Jamaica - while the roadside endors in Boston Bay
offer some of the best jerk pork in the country in a loely
oceanside setting. |
