There are several up market
accommodation options on the coast east of Port
Antonio, best of which is Dragon Bay (phone:
876/993-7527, fax 993-8971; US$100-130). A classic Caribbean
resort, it has 55 lavish acres, a gorgeous beach, and good
facilities including tennis courts, pool, fitness centre,
sauna, a dive shop and two restaurants. You stay in rooms or
one-, two- or three-bedroom villas.
Otherwise, green-conscious Mocking Bird Hill (phone:
876/993-7267, fax 993-7133, ; US$100-130) boasts a lovely
airy setting on a peaceful bluff above San San, with great
Blue Mountain views too.
The comfortable rooms have
balconies, and there's a pool and a good restaurant.
Italian-style San
San Tropez (phone: 876/993-7213, fax 993-7399, ;
US$75-100) is another possibility. Its large rooms feature
A/C and cable TV, and there's a pool and renowned restaurant
on site.

A less expensive option is Drapers San, right on the
road at Drapers (phone: & fax 876/993-7118; US$25-50), a
funky, friendly, Italian-run guesthouse with an eclectic
collection of rooms, some with kitchen, some with shared
bathroom; all have fans and mosquito nets. Breakfast is
included, and the owner is a great source of local
information.
There's a good
selection of places to eat this side of Port Antonio.
With an impossibly romantic setting right on the water, the
Blue Lagoon restaurant (phone: 876/993-8491) serves
jerk shrimp, honey conch and fresh fish and lobster for
lunch and dinner. For a more formal meal, head to Mille
Fleurs at Mocking Bird Hill Hotel, where the
terrace restaurant offers imaginative dishes based on
Jamaican staples. The Sicilian chefs at San Tropez
serve up home-made pasta, fantastic thin-crust pizzas and
Italian-style grilled fish with tomatoes.
