Whichever route you take north of Hampstead tube, you'll probably end up
at the small triangular green on Holly Bush Hill, on the north side of
which stands the late seventeenth-century Fenton House.
As
well as housing a collection of European and Oriental ceramics, this
National Trust house contains the superb Benton-Fletcher collection of
early musical instruments, chiefly displayed on the top floor. Among the
many spinets, virginals and clavichords are the earliest extant English
grand piano, and an Unendorsed lute from 1580 (one of only three in the
world).
April-Oct Wed-Fri 2-5pm, Sat & Sun 11am-5pm; £4.20. Tube: Hampstead.
