Housed in an abandoned 1930s subway station at Schermerhorn Street and
Boverum Place, the New York Transit Museum (Tues-Fri 10am-4pm, Sat
& Sun noon-5pm; $3, children $1.50; tel 718/243-3060, www.mta.nyc
. ny.us/museum) offers more than 100 years worth of transportation
history and memorabilia. Some of the better items are the antique
turnstiles and more than twenty restored subway cars and buses dating
back to the turn of the nineteventh century. At the time of writing, the
museum is closed for renoation and is due to reopen in 2003.
