Rio de Janeiro’s climate and temperature doesn’t change much year round. So it’s attractions can be enjoyed at practically any time of the year.

Visitors usually learn what the locals know and are proud of: there’s always something new happening in Rio, exhibitions, dance and music shows, sporting events.

Music is performed during the weekend on stages that are built on the beach sands, Arpoador – Ipanema beach end - or around Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon. Last February 18th, 2006 Rolling Stones concert was attended by 1,500 million people on Copacabana beach. For free.

It is customary on Friday night for Cariocas (Rio’s locals) to party. Saturdays after a day at the beach, locals go to a churrasco – barbecue – at their friends’ home. Sunday  Cariocas go to a feijoada – typical food black bean based get together, added to farofa – a kind of cereal and caipirinha – a drink consisting in a mix of lemon and cachaca – spirit tasted between rum and scotch.

Rio New Year's Eve celebration, usually attended by more than two million people, is a close second in popularity, if not equal to the Carnival. It attracts people from all over the world, and Brazilians from all states.

The celebrations are concentrated in Copacabana every year. Four stages along the beach have performances of lie music shows starting at 8 p.m. that feature everything from traditional Carnival songs to rock and dance.

The firework displays starts at midnight, with the turning of the New Year. The fireworks launching platforms are located in boats anchored a safe distance from the beach. Firework displays last about 15-20 minutes, and two highlights are the fireworks cascades at Forte de Copacabana and at Le Meridien Hotel.
