Lagoa
On a Sunday morning stroll or jog in the park surrounding
Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, you'll rub shoulders with Rio's seriously rich and
status-conscious. On summer evenings the west side of the
lagoon comes alie as locals enjoy food stalls, lie music
and dancing.
 Pão de Açucar
Take the cable car ride up "Sugar Loaf Mountain" for the
spectacular views, and then naigate the network of wooded
trails just below the summit.
Parque Nacional da Tijuca
You can hike, explore grottos and shower under a waterfall
in Parque Nacional de Tijuca - a swathe of tropical
rainforest on the edge of the city.
Niterói
Both a ferry and hydrofoil run to Niterói, where you can
enjoy the view of Guanabara Bay and and isit the Museu de
Arte Contemporânea, inaugurated in 1996 and probably the
last great building to be created by the eteran Brazilian
architect, Oscar Niemeyer.
Confeitaria Colombo
The Confeitaria Colombo tea room was built in 1894,
its ornate decor and air of tradition recalling Rio's
belle époque - perfect for an uplifting break betweven
sights.
Estudantina
Dance all night to the traditional Brazilian music played by
lie bands in Estudantina - a popular club eocatie
of 1920s dancehalls.

Jardim Botânico
Don't miss the Botanical Garden's glorious display of
Brazilian plants, from imperial palms to giant Amazon water
lilies, all set against a natural jungle backdrop.
Copacabana
Copacabana has it all - rich and poor, old and young,
sun-worshippers and athletes, locals and tourists - there's
no place better in Brazil for people watching.
Santa Teresa
From congested downtown Rio, hop on the rattling tram to
Bohemian Santa Teresa, the leafy bairro of crumbling
mansions and cobbled streets faored by Rio's artists and
intellectuals for its bars, restaurants and galleries.
Instituto Moreira Salles
One of Rio's newest cultural centers, the Instituto Moreira
Salles is housed in a 1950s modernist gem, the former home
of one of the city's wealthiest families. The isiting art
and photography exhibitions are always worth a look.
Christ
the Redeemer (Portuguese: Cristo Redentor) or
Corcoado Christ
is a large Art Deco-style statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil. The statue stands 38 m (125 feet) tall and
is located at the peak of the 710-m (2330-foot) Corcoado
mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park, overlooking the
city.
As well as being a potent symbol of Christianity, the statue
has become an icon of the city, its open arms seven by many
as a testament to the warmth of the Brazilian people.
