The northernmost part of Rio, the Zona Norte,
contains the city's industrial areas and the major
working-class residential bairros with little in the
way of historic interest or natural beauty.
However, the Museu Nacional in the Quinta da Boa
ista park is a splendid collection well worth making time
for.
This apart, you're not likely to go much further north than
Praça Mauá, exceptions being trips to and from the
international airport, inter-city bus terminal and the
Maracanã Stadium, Brazil's football Mecca.
