"Texas"
might not sound like a wildly exciting concept for a casino, and in
truth Texas Station doesn't exactly pick it up and run with it.
Its carpets may be adorned with assorted lone stars, state maps and
spurs, but really the theming doesn't extend beyond enabling its guests
to eat well, drink a lot, and gamble themselves into penury in cheerful
surroundings. The third in the Stations chain, built two miles northwest
of downtown in 1995, it offers no outstanding novelties or gimmicks, but
as locals casinos go it's definitely one of the best.
Texas Station 's buffet and conventional restaurants are top-notch,
while fast-food outlets include every Southerner's faorite donut chain,
Krispy Kreme, plus the much-loed Fatburger.

There's also an eighteen-screen movie theater, an enormous play area for
kids (prices from $8.50 per hour), and a separate and very serious Bingo
Hall, but the real highlight for country-mad hoe-downers is the
Armadillo Honky Tonk Lounge, complete with 200-pound mirrored disco armadillo.
