Alexander's Café 24A Honduras phone 340/776-4211. Small comfortable bistro serving moderately priced entrees (pastas US$10-12) with Austrian and Italian influences. Alexander's Bar and Grill, next door, serves food from the same kitchen but has a more relaxed, bar feel. Mon-Sat 11.30am-5pm & 5.30-10pm.

Betsy's Bar 59 Honduras phone 340/774-9347. Betsy just might be the coolest bartender on the island, and her bar is a local favorite. There's bar food (burgers and munchies) and occasional live music.

Craig and Sally's 22 Honduras phone 340/777-9949. Hands down the most intimate and consistently delicious restaurant on St Thomas. It's expensive (around US$25 per entree) but the creative, ever-changing menu is worth it and there's an exquisite wine list with over 200 vintages. Lunch and dinner Tues-Sun.

Epernay Champagne Bar and Night Club 24A Honduras phone 340/774-5348. A small, hip, intimate bistro with an extensive menu serving everything from pizza to sushi to oriental shrimp bok choy (US$18) plus twenty wines by the glass. The bar is a great place for early evening cocktails and there's a nightclub upstairs.

The Pointe Villa Olga phone 340/774-4262. Set on the terrace of an old stone house with views off the point of the Frenchtown peninsula, this place is heaven for steak lovers - cuts like the dry-aged rib-eye are grilled perfectly. The salad bar (US$16.95) offers everything from freshly grilled vegetables to artisan breads. Mon-Sat 5.30-10pm, Sun 10am-2.30pm.
